Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) technology offers an efficient and cost-effective solution for treating industrial wastewater with variable flow rates and characteristics.

How SBR Technology Works

SBR operates in discrete batches rather than continuous flow. Each batch undergoes fill, react, settle, and draw phases in a single tank, eliminating the need for separate clarifiers.

SBR Process Phases

1. Fill Phase

Raw wastewater enters the reactor. Aeration may begin immediately (aerobic) or later (anoxic/anaerobic).

2. React Phase

Biological treatment occurs through controlled aeration. Nutrient removal (nitrogen, phosphorus) can be optimized.

3. Settle Phase

Aeration stops, allowing biomass to settle under quiescent conditions, producing clear supernatant.

4. Draw Phase

Treated effluent is decanted. The cycle then repeats.

Key Advantages of SBR

  • High Flexibility: Easily handles variable flows and loadings
  • Excellent Nutrient Removal: Easy control of aerobic/anoxic phases
  • Compact Design: No separate clarifier required
  • Cost-Effective: Lower capital and operational costs
  • Easy Upgrade: Can upgrade existing tanks
