Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) systems effectively remove suspended solids, oil, and grease from water and wastewater through microbubble flotation.

How DAF Works

Water is saturated with dissolved air under pressure. When released to atmospheric pressure, tiny air bubbles form and attach to suspended particles, causing them to float to the surface where they are skimmed off.

Applications

  • Industrial wastewater pretreatment
  • Oil and gas produced water treatment
  • Food and beverage processing
  • Paper and pulp industry
  • Municipal wastewater tertiary treatment
  • Thickening of biological sludge

Key Advantages

  • High removal efficiency (90%+ for oils and greases)
  • Compact footprint compared to sedimentation
  • Effective for fine particles that won’t settle
  • Continuous operation
  • Low chemical requirements

System Components

  • Saturation tank (retention vessel)
  • Air dissolving pump
  • Flotation tank with skimmer
  • Sludge removal system
  • Control panel

Design Parameters

  • Hydraulic loading: 3-8 m³/m²/hr
  • Air/solids ratio: 0.02-0.08
  • Retention time: 15-30 minutes
  • Operating pressure: 4-6 bar
