Ultrafiltration (UF) is a pressure-driven membrane process that removes suspended solids, bacteria, viruses, and high-molecular-weight compounds.

How UF Works

Similar to microfiltration but with finer membrane pores (0.01-0.1 micron). UF removes colloids, proteins, and microorganisms while allowing salts and small molecules to pass.

Key Advantages

  • Physical barrier to bacteria and viruses (>99.99% removal)
  • Consistent effluent quality regardless of feed water variations
  • No chemical disinfection by-products
  • Compact footprint
  • Easy operation and maintenance

Applications

  • Drinking water treatment (surface water protection)
  • Wastewater reuse
  • Pre-treatment for RO systems
  • Food and beverage clarification
  • Pharmaceutical water preparation
  • Metal finishing rinse water recovery

Hollow Fiber vs. Spiral Wound

Hollow Fiber UF

Self-contained modules with thousands of hollow fibers. Excellent for high-solids feed water. Backwashable for recovery.

Spiral Wound UF

Similar to RO but with looser membrane. Good for low-solids applications. Higher packing density.

Feiran EP UF Systems

We offer both hollow fiber and spiral wound UF systems for all applications.
