Screenings washers reduce the organic content and volume of captured debris, reducing disposal costs and odors.

What are Screenings?

Coarse debris removed by bar screens: rags, plastics, paper, food waste, and other solid materials.

Why Wash Screenings?

  • Reduce organic content (BOD) in screenings
  • Reduce volume and weight
  • Minimize odor problems
  • Improve disposal options
  • Reduce handling requirements

Washer Press Operation

Screenings are fed into a pressurized wash zone where high-pressure water and mechanical action remove organic matter. Solids are then dewatered by a screw press.

Key Benefits

  • Up to 80% volume reduction
  • Low BOD content in washed screenings
  • Clean wash water returned to headworks
  • Continuous operation
  • Compact design

Performance Data

  • BOD reduction: >80%
  • Volume reduction: Up to 80%
  • Solids capture: >95%
  • Wash water: 2-5 m³/ton screenings
