Activated Sludge Process: Biological Wastewater Treatment
The activated sludge process is a common biological wastewater treatment method using aeration and sedimentation.
How It Works
Wastewater is mixed with biomass (activated sludge) and aerated. Microorganisms consume organic pollutants, then the mixture settles to separate treated water from sludge.
Process Types
- Conventional activated sludge
- Extended aeration
- Contact stabilization
- Sequencing batch reactor (SBR)
