TL;DR
The Ozone Catalytic Oxidation System uses ozone and a catalyst to break hard-to-degrade organics into smaller, biodegradable fragments. Skid-mounted and factory-tested, it suits textile, chemical, and pharmaceutical plants needing deep treatment: placed before biology to raise biodegradability, or after it to polish residual color and COD. We sell product only.
Key Takeaways
- Ozone plus a catalyst bed breaks refractory organics down into smaller, more biodegradable fragments that a biological stage can finish.
- It can sit before the biological stage to improve biodegradability, or after it as a polishing stage for residual color and COD.
- It pairs best with DAF pretreatment: flotation removes oil and solids first, protecting the catalyst and cutting ozone demand.
- The system is skid-mounted, pre-assembled, and FAT-tested before shipment, in SUS304/316L stainless steel to the German DIN industrial standard.
- We sell product only and do not guarantee discharge compliance: final results depend on the full system, influent, and operation.
Overview
An ozone catalytic oxidation system is an advanced oxidation package for wastewater that biology alone cannot finish. Plain ozone reacts selectively and can be slow against refractory molecules; passing the ozonated water through a catalyst bed promotes hydroxyl-radical formation, which attacks a much wider range of hard-to-degrade organics — dyes, surfactants, and persistent COD — and breaks them into smaller fragments.
The package is built around five parts: an oxygen-fed ozone generator, a catalytic oxidation reactor with the catalyst bed, a gas–liquid contacting and mixing section, an off-gas ozone destruct unit, and a PLC control cabinet with safety interlocks. The whole train is pre-assembled on a steel skid, piped, wired, and factory acceptance tested (FAT) before shipment, so site work is limited to connecting inlet, outlet, power, and the oxygen supply.
In a typical retrofit, the unit works with a DAF flotation skid ahead of it: the DAF removes oil, grease, and suspended solids, and the oxidation stage then treats the dissolved refractory load that flotation cannot touch. Ozone generation options are covered on our ozone generator page.
Key Features
- Catalytic reactor: fixed catalyst bed sized to the design flow and target pollutants, with even gas–liquid distribution across the bed.
- Ozone generation: corona-discharge generator sized to the required dose, with feed-gas preparation; oxygen from PSA or liquid oxygen supply.
- Skid-mounted and FAT-tested: generator, reactor, piping, valves, and controls pre-assembled on one skid and tested before dispatch.
- Materials: wetted parts in SUS304 or SUS316L stainless steel, ozone-resistant seals and piping throughout the gas path.
- Safety: ambient ozone leak alarm, off-gas catalytic destruct unit, and interlocks that shut ozone generation down on fault, low flow, or high residual ozone.
- Controls: PLC with HMI for dose adjustment, alarms, and run logging; manual and automatic modes.
Parameter Table
| Parameter | Typical specification |
| Treatment capacity | Project-specific; typical skid trains from 5 to 100 m³/h, confirmed by treatability test |
| Applied ozone dose | Set by treatability test on your wastewater; typical dose scales with the COD and color to be removed |
| Catalyst | Supported metal-oxide catalyst bed; typical service life 3–5 years depending on influent quality |
| Reactor material | SUS304 / SUS316L stainless steel |
| Ozone generation | Oxygen-fed corona discharge |
| Power supply | 380V / 50Hz, 3-phase |
| Control | PLC + HMI, ozone leak alarm, safety interlocks |
| Off-gas handling | Catalytic ozone destruct unit included |
Final sizing is always confirmed against your measured influent data and a treatability test — the table gives typical ranges, not a performance promise.
Typical Applications
- Textile dyeing and finishing: residual color and refractory COD after biological treatment.
- Chemical and fine-chemical plants: persistent organics that pass through aeration largely unchanged.
- Pharmaceutical production: hard-to-degrade intermediates and polishing before discharge or reuse.
- Industrial park central plants: a deep-treatment stage added for standard-upgrade retrofits, including Vietnam plants upgrading for QCVN 40:2025.
- Leachate and mixed industrial effluent: high COD-to-BOD ratio streams where the remaining COD is mostly refractory.

FAQ
What is ozone catalytic oxidation, and how is it different from ozone alone?
Ozone catalytic oxidation passes ozonated water through a catalyst bed, which promotes hydroxyl-radical formation. Hydroxyl radicals react faster and less selectively than ozone alone, so refractory organics break down at a lower applied ozone dose and the fragments are more biodegradable.
Should the oxidation stage go before or after biological treatment?
Both positions work, for different goals. Before biology, oxidation raises the biodegradability of the persistent fraction so the biological stage can finish it. After biology, it polishes residual color and COD. High oil and solids loads usually argue for DAF pretreatment plus biology first; a mainly dissolved refractory load may favor oxidation ahead of biology.
Can this system guarantee my effluent meets QCVN 40:2025 or my local discharge standard?
No. Our ozone catalytic oxidation units are suitable for deep treatment of hard-to-degrade wastewater, but final discharge results depend on the full system, influent, and operation. We do not guarantee compliance — confirm your limits with your local authority and verify performance by testing on your own wastewater.
Do I need DAF or other pretreatment ahead of the oxidation stage?
Usually yes for industrial effluent. Oil, grease, and suspended solids foul the catalyst bed and raise ozone demand. A DAF skid ahead of the oxidation stage removes that load first; chemical pretreatment may also be needed to control pH or specific foulants.
What data do you need to size and quote a system?
Flow (average and peak), COD and BOD, color, oil and grease, suspended solids, pH, and temperature, plus your existing process and available footprint. A treatability test on a sample of your wastewater confirms the ozone dose and contact time.
Do you provide overseas installation and commissioning?
